The Byron Sportsmen and Conservation was founded in 1983 by Romeo Tlougan and Don DeBlieck. Since then the Club has taken many steps and made many improvements to make it one of the most outstanding sportsmen’s clubs in Minnesota.

The following are some of the Club’s highlights:

• 1983-The Club’s first meeting is attended by 26 people. Jim Bitterman is the Clubs first president.

• 1985-A 60 acre farm purchased from Bob Kobel became the Club’s headquarters.

• 1987- A camp for the Boys Scouts was built along the river and continues to be available for use by the Club members, Scouts and other groups. 1990- 2003 The shed that once sheltered cattle is converted into the Clubhouse through the efforts of members volunteering their time and talents. The result is a beautiful Clubhouse with a kitchen, knotty pine porch, and field stone fireplace in the main meeting room.

• 1993- Sporting clays were started at the Club with the purchase of manual traps.

• 1996 -8 acres of woodlands was purchased on the west property line along the river.

• 2002- The 4 bench pistol range was completed.

• 2002- A state-of-the-art 300 yard rifle range including six shooting stations was built by Club members.

• 2003- Control of erosion on the banks of the river on west side of property was abated by completion of the Riverbank Restoration Project.

• In 2004 forty five acres adjacent to the to north property line was purchased from Mrs. Yennie. The Club now has a total of 117.59 acres.

• 2004 A large machine shed was build with the help of Club members and the Olmsted Co. Sentence to Serve crew.

• 2005-The archery range featuring a 20’ tower was completed on the west side of the Club property.

• 2007- Selective logging of Club property was completed.

• 2009- The Clubs first annual pheasant hunt was held in January at the Pheasantview Game Farm in Goodhue. Twenty two members attended and harvested 78 pheasants, many which were served at the Cabin Fever Fun Night. Plans are for the Club to sponsor these annual hunts.

• 2012-The Clubs first free youth shoot. The first years attendance included approximately 50 youth from surrounding committees.

• 2013-A brand Kubota tractor was purchased for club use
